Taika Waititi visits Hobbiton during his tour guide stint in New Zealand

Taika Waititi has given fans a video tour of Hobbiton, glow worms and a ‘death lake’ during a holiday around New Zealand.

The Māori filmmaker gave fans a glimpse into his own journey around some of the country’s most popular tourist destinations over the Anzac long weekend, with a series of hilarious social media posts.

“Here I am outside Bilbo Baggins’ actual real Hobbit hole,” said Waititi, in an Instagram video showing him strolling through the Middle Earth film set, from fellow Kiwi director Sir Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie trilogies.

“So, guys, this is actually a bit of history and very special,” the Thor: Love and Thunder director told his followers as he entered the subterranean dwelling that was home to the Hobbit character of Bilbo Baggins.

“Here’s all of Bilbo’s stuff…oh, wow, that’s where he lived and died,” he told his social media followers.

Waititi tagged his posts with the caption ‘dads on tour’ with his videos revealing he was accompanying his two young daughters Matewa Kiritapu and Te Hinekāhu.

The trio also stopped in at Hobbiton’s local tavern, The Green Dragon Inn, where Waititi pretended they were about to sit down to a hearty Hobbit’s breakfast at a table adorned with plates of bacon, scrambled eggs, and fruit.

Waititi ended each post by asking his followers to hit the like button, which turned into a running joke.

“Okay, make sure you push like down the bottom, because I haven’t seen you guys doing that. Seems like you aren’t actually taking this seriously,” he says in one clip.

The trio continued their adventures with a stop at another of New Zealand’s world-famous attractions, the Waitomo Caves.

One video shows the group inspecting a large eel in a stream, with a tour guide explaining its migration habits.

Waititi and his kids donned hard hats equipped with spotlights to trek into the cave to check out glow-worms.

“Okay, so that was the glow worms. You missed it but here we are coming out of the cave now,” Waititi said as the group emerged back into daylight. “That was a fantastic experience.”

Waititi again instructed his followers to like his post, with a caption saying: “Click like, you scumbags. It’s important that you like me.”

Waititi’s adventures continue to unfold, with the Marvel director and his children heading further south to the Waimangu Volcanic Valley, located just outside of Rotorua.

There the group set off on another trail around volcanic craters, various hot water springs, along with rare plant and bird life.

“Welcome to another ep of Taika Does New Zealand,” he said.

“This here is a big beautiful hot water lake full of boiling water that will kill you. Welcome to New Zealand. It’s a terrifyingly beautiful lake.

“Make sure you hit that like button if you like the idea of me taking my children around the edge of a Death Lake.”

Waititi’s travels come after fans last week got their first look at the new teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder.

The fourth film in the Thor series follows the events of Avengers: Endgame, with Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, who has left earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy following the fall of Asgard.

Waititi also returns in the film, as rock gladiator Korg, along with former MCU star Tessa Thompson’s character Valkyrie.
